Wear the caps

Have in mind a cap for your team? We’d be happy to customise a baseball cap or flat brim cap for you

This is it! The final instalment in our Product Of The Week (POTW) series!

For our final feature, it’s none other than Caps, more specifically baseball caps.

To go into the topic about caps we need to talk about hats first. Hats are headgear or headwear accessories that have been around since Ancient Egypt around 3200 BC. Hats are worn for a variety of purposes including (but not limited to) protection from weather, ceremonies or events or as symbol of social status. Some are worn casually or for a certain occasion.

A cap is essentially a brimless hat. Main features of caps are its unshaped crown and visor at the front. Popular caps include trucker cap, snapback cap, baseball cap and flat brim cap. You can tell a cap apart from a hat with its shape.

Baseball caps being a part of the hat family came about in the 19th century and since then have been a mainstay in fashion and sports. The early baseball teams (American National Baseball League founded in 1875) did not use baseball caps but rather any type of brimmed hat including straw boater style or the pillbox style which were the popular choice then.

It wasn’t until the 1940s that the baseball cap got its style that we know today.

As caps became more mainstream, it was made popular by musicians and celebrities who adopted cap wearing for different reasons and different styles (sideways/backwards) as a form of self expression.
