Hi Cleo! Let’s start by telling us about yourself.


Hi Saltycustoms! My name is Cleo Pau, the Senior Sales Planner of GHL, a corporation that is renowned for its payment services and solutions in the region. I’m part of the team that is managing bill payments, reloads and online gaming. Prior to this, I was working in a radio station as a programme engineer, so GHL has introduced an entirely new working landscape to me.


Before I embarked on my career, I was studying pro-casting (video) in Kuala Lumpur and Taiwan.

What keeps you motivated at work?


Well, money, of course. On top of that, the sense of accomplishment and the opportunity to learn are also my major motivators. I also love dealing with clients and helping them solve whatever problems they may have.

What do you usually read and how do you consume information?


I love reading books and magazines, especially the Chinese ones about lifestyle, design and home design. I also spend a lot of time on social media to absorb work- and marketing-related insights and knowledge.

What do you think are some characteristics of successful people in the corporate world?


From my experience, successful people are always working! There are no such things as ‘weekends’ or ‘holidays’ for them. They are so passionate about what they do that their work becomes part of their life. Successful people are also not afraid to continue learning from the best people around them.

That’s a great answer. Now, why do you enjoy marketing?


I enjoy it because it allows me to learn new things every day. No two days are the same for me. I’m always working with clients to help them solve their problems. And when problems do get solved, that gives me immense satisfaction. Marketing allows me to feel inspired day after day.

Do you think custom t-shirts are a great, disruptive marketing tool? Why?


Definitely! I think great t-shirts help create great first impressions. It makes a team look more professional and more united, and that results in greater trust from the clients.

How did the t-shirts from Saltycustoms help your campaign?


We worked with Saltycustoms for our internal event. We went out for a game of treasure hunt, and the t-shirts helped us promote our products and services to the world. We also visited universities, night markets and even bus stops to promote our products, and I feel that the apparel really played a big part in helping us achieve our objectives.

What do you think differentiates Saltycustoms from the competition?


The customisation, for sure. The other companies that we’ve used only provide very basic t-shirts, but Saltycustoms allowed us to have special designs that are cool and attractive. Also, the Saltycustoms team is a lot younger and more in-tuned to design trends.

Lastly, what advice would you give to young marketing executives?


Always try to innovate yourself with new ideas. Don’t be afraid to explore the unexplored. Also, brush up on your communication skill, you will need it because whether you like it or not, you’ll be working with people of different behaviours and characteristics.
